Dr. John Jablonski

In the 1980s, John Jablonski worked as a cultural attaché at the US Embassy, and he has since returned to Hungary as a university professor several times. As a Senior Fulbright Lecturer, he visited us in 2002/2003 to teach courses in Composition Theory, History of Rhetoric, Business and Technical Writing, Contemporary American Social Features. In addition, he contributed to the development of the technical-writing component for a new specialization in Information and Communication Design and Technology. He returned several times in the 2000s and 2010s and taught week-long seminars or full-fledged courses focusing on writing and rhetoric: Technical Writing, Advanced Academic Writing, Composition Theory, Classical Rhetoric, American Political Rhetoric: Past and Present, The Rhetoric of Race in America, and Historical Aspects of English. In 2012, he was awarded the Pro Universitate Debreceniensi 2000 Medal, an award granted to those who offer major support to the teaching and research work of the university, contribute to its development and its domestic and international reputation, and those who play an important role in developing the university’s social and scientific/scholarly relations.

Günter Radden has visited our department several times in the past (2002 autumn, 2006/2007, 2012 autumn). As professor emeritus of linguistics, he taught an undergraduate course on Cognitive Grammar and a postgraduate class on research in Cognitive Linguistics.
