AN3208BA - Introduction to Contemporary Media Culture
This seminar serves as an introduction to different concepts and theories of media based on recent scholarship in the field, keeping in mind the needs of students majoring in English literature and culture. The first half of the course aims to develop a deeper understanding of transmedia storytelling through the analysis of The Witcher franchise in different media such as literature, comics, TV series, games, anime and prosumer productions (memes, cosplay etc.). Throughout the second half of the course, we will discuss contemporary phenomena in media culture (e.g., nostalgia) and new genres, hybrid forms of different media (e.g., podcast, streaming, interactive fiction).
