The Institute of English and American Studies offers the ideal environment for students who prefer a friendly university town over a bustling metropolis but still want both lively student life and academic inspiration. With over thirty thousand students and a magnificent main building surrounded by a modern campus, the University of Debrecen blends tradition, innovation, and community.

Home to English majors, IEAS occupies one half of the first floor of the main building. Its refurbished, well-equipped classrooms open onto the circular gallery of the ceremonial courtyard, while the “English corridor” fosters a close, active community. Students regularly organize conferences, cultural events, hikes, and the Debrecen Drama Festival - the only English-language university drama festival in Hungary.

Students enjoy access to DEENK, the country’s second largest library, and the Institute Library with forty thousand volumes and a newly renovated reading room. The American Corner hosts various cultural and educational events, adding to the the multicultural atmosphere of the city.

We are also very near to the UD Learning Center - the multifunctional, state-of-the-art, triangular building, situated between the main building and the university sports facilities, is primarily meant to host and facilitate individual and group-based learning activities.

Accommodation is available in nearby halls of residence or the modern Campus Hotel, while private housing options abound around the Great Forest. The city of Debrecen and the campus meets every academic and recreational need, offering sports fields, an Olympic-level swimming pool, and the "Hall", which is under the nearby city football stadium, hosting concerts and major student events. The stadium also hosts the UniFit Fitness & Gym Center, a modern and fully-equipped training facility.

Nearby, the Great Forest and the university’s botanical gardens invite peaceful walks and relaxation. For those who enjoy aquatic adventures, the Aquaticum spa complex offers a wide variety of water facilities.
