Besides the emphasis on research, following and assisting the work of talented students has always been a top priority with the staff members of the Department of British Studies. The University of Debrecen offers various programmes to undergraduates who wish to pursue extracurricular research: perhaps the students' extracurricular research society and national conference are of the most crucial importance, where our students are famously successful; but also of great significance are the István Hatvani Students Extramural College and the Talent Management Programme (DETEP) of the University of Debrecen.
Our success is indicated by the fact that two staff members at the Department of British Studies have been granted the Master Supervisor Award by the National Council of the Students' Extracurricular Research Societies for their more than ten year-long successful work as extracurricular essay supervisors: Dr. Bényei Tamás (2001) and Dr. Séllei Nóra (2003).
(For information on talent management at the postgraduate level, see MA in English Studies and Ph.D. in British Studies).
Our most outstanding students also participate in the student instructor programme. They have applied successfully for various grants to universities in the UK, Ireland, the USA, and several other countries of the EU. These grants include those under the auspices of the Erasmus programme of the EU, as well as ISEP and Fulbright grants.
Several of our former students went on to take higher degrees in notable universities of the UK and the US.
