Achraf Idrissi, Ph.D. student at the doctoral school of literary and cultural studies in the Institute of English and American Studies at the University of Debrecen, Hungary, obtained his MA in Cultural Studies from the University of Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdullah, Morocco. Grounded in decolonial theories, his doctoral research explores the intellectual as well as the diplomatic exchanges between Europe and the Arab Islamic world, particularly the cross-cultural influences which have characterized the state of international affairs in the early modern period as it relates to statecraft, international relations, Muslim-Christian relations, political institutions, etc….His research interests include Decolonial Studies, Decoloniality, Memory Studies, Diplomatic History, Early Modern Period, Cross-Cultural Encounters, Travel Writing, History, Orientalism, Occidentalism, Postcolonial Studies and Captivity Narratives. He is also affiliated the Moroccan Cultural Studies Center where as a Ph.D. student he took part in a joint program with Rutgers University in the department of cultural anthropology. His research project was an ethnographic study of encounters between the ville nouvelle and the countryside, and how it affects identity formation as well as economic integration.
