Judit Kiss-Gulyás holds a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Essex (1999). Her main areas of interest are applied linguistics, psycholinguistics, language acquisition, ELT Methodology and the language of media and advertising. Her current research interests are how the grammar of the second language is represented in the mind at different levels of interlanguage development, and how sentences are processed. She is the first in Hungary to have published second language acquisition research applying the theoretical framework of generative syntax.


She has been head of Department of English Language Learning and Teaching from 2002 to August 2011 (till her retirement). From the 2011-2012 academic year the department has been working under the name English Language Pedagogy Working Group.
