Short description: the aim is to provide our students with theoretical tools and a range of practical skills in the area of English language, cultures and literatures so that they can utilise and adapt their acquired knowledge in relevant fields in their future job (for examples of what you can do click here).

Details of the components

• Foundational courses: courses that all English majors have to complete. Includes faculty-level and programme-specific foundational courses on philosophy, literature, history, civilization linguistics, and English competence. This module also includes the English Yardstick Exam (EYE) in semester 2.
• Specializations: in semester 2, students should choose a 4-semester specialization, which they complete in semesters 3-6. The specialization ends with a module closing exam. We currently offer the following specializations:
  • Business English (module closing exam)
  • Minor in another programme (see the individual programmes for completion requirements)
• Tracks: in semester 4, students should choose a 2-semester track, which they complete in semesters 5-6. The track ends with a module closing exam. We offer the following tracks:
  • American studies
  • British studies
  • Linguistics and communication
• Thesis: by the end of the programme, students should complete a thesis. See the details here.
• Final exam: once students have completed all the modules above, they should take the BA final exam. See the details here.
   
• Others (not represented in the image, these may and should be accomplished at any point of the study programme):
  • Optional courses for 10 credits (any course offered by UD)
  • 2 semesters of physical education course (2 credits)
  • Fire and workplace safety education (1 credit)
