REGULATIONS FOR THE USE OF THE INSTITUTE LIBRARY ADMISSION (1) Services in the Reading Room of the Institute Library are available for staff and students of any educational institution or any visitor, but books may be borrowed only by persons who fall into one of the following categories:
- IEAS academic and non-academic staff
- IEAS regular and correspondence students, including PhD, upgrading, and distance learning students
- PhD students at the Faculty of Arts (BTK), University of Debrecen
- academic and non-academic sta<div class="list-tpl tpl2">ff at the Centre for Arts and Sciences (TEK), University of Debrecen
- academic staff of English departments in Hungary
- on contractual basis anyone having permission of director of the institute
Note that non-Hungarian citizens shall be asked to produce a reference from their Hungarian employers.
Teachers of English from other educational institutions in Hajdú-Bihar County and academic staff of English departments in Hungary, i.e. non-IEAS/ BTK/TEK borrowers are to pay HUF 3000 per each calendar year to contribute to the growth of the Institute Library. BORROWINGS The number of books to be issued for IEAS staff and students will not be limited during a semester but students may not have on loan more than 3 books at a time on a specific subject/for a course. Also, during exam periods, they will not be allowed to borrow more than 3 works of literature from their required reading lists. Non-IEAS/ BTK/TEK borrowers may not have more than 3 books at a time for a maximum loan period of 4 weeks. Also, course books and dictionaries will not be issued to them. Books and Photocopies Depending on the type and available copy number of the books and photocopied course materials, these will be loaned for
- 1 semester
- 4 weeks
- 1 week
- 3 days
- overnight.
Encyclopedias, handbooks, dictionaries and bibliographies are not to be borrowed. Important note: last copies of books in heavy demand, i.e. those which are included in the required or suggested reading lists of the courses, will be put on reserve in Room 101 and will be issued by previous arrangement for overnight only. Please also note that books and other documents can be reserved for loan with the librarians. Periodicals and Audio-Visual Documents Newspapers, magazines, and academic journals are not to be borrowed. As a general rule, audio-visual documents may be borrowed for 3 days only. Periodicals can be photocopied in Room 101 at the readers` own expense. Copies of CD-ROMs on reserve can be used only by previous arrangement with the librarians in Room 101. Note that some master copies of audio-visual documents may not be borrowed but copies of audio cassettes may be made by previous arrangement in Room 101. RETURN Students and non-IEAS borrowers are requested to return all the books and photocopies to the library at the end of each semester. Those who have anything on loan to them from the previous semester will not be allowed to borrow books for the next semester. The loan of books to be used in the so called overlapping courses can be renewed until the end of the academic year on condition that they are presented at the Issue Desk at the beginning of the new semester. During summer breaks, only teaching staff and those who are working on their thesis or study circle (TDK) papers may have books on loan to them. Students who sit for their exams in the fall semester can also renew the loan of books necessary for them. Fines for losing or damaging a book will have to be paid at the end of the academic year. FINES If a book is lost or damaged, the borrower will have to pay a fine three times as much as the purchase price of the book was at the time of its acquisition. Occasionally, the librarians may, at their discretion, assess a fine which may deviate from this principle. Fines can, of course, be remitted by replacement of the lost or damaged book.
Fines for overdue books:
- overnight loans : HUF 200 per hour
- 3-day short loans: HUF 200 per day
Not that the fines for failure of returning overnight loans will be charged from 10.00 a.m. and they will be HUF 1,000 after the first and each subsequent day.
- overdue books at the end of the semester: a basic HUF 500 + an extra HUF 100 per each overdue document
Miscellanea Computers in Room 101 may be used for maximum 30 minutes by anyone at a given time. As IEAS library has an open shelf system, it is very important that patrons put the books back exactly to the same place where they have taken them from. In case you do not remember the right place, you can leave them on the Reading Room tables or with the librarian at the circulation desk. Bags, coats, drink or food are not allowed in the Reading Room. Classes in the Reading Room may be held only with permission from the Director of the Institute. The present regulations have been adopted by the Institute Council and will remain valid until further notice. Ignorance of these rules will not be accepted as an excuse for their non-observance.
